Accessible Trail Construction

Project Profile: Timber Pointe Outdoor Center, Bloomington, Illinois

Timber & Stone, LLC worked to improve the recreational facilities at this camp. Following an inventory of the trail system, two 30 foot bridges were constructed, a new trail was designed, and improvements were made to existing structures. Timber & Stone, LLC collaborated with Americorps to provide a training opportunity for service members. Ultimately, the crew learned essential bridge building skills while assisting in the completion of this project.

Sponsoring Organization: Easter Seals Timber Pointe Outdoor Center
"Easter Seals Timber Pointe Outdoor Center is a beautiful 170-acre facility located on Lake Bloomington, just 12 miles north of Bloomington/Normal.  More than five miles of paths and roadways wind through hardwood and pine forests, providing easy access to cabins and lodges, as well as wildlife habitats, overnight tent sites and program areas."

This 30 foot handicap accessible bridge was constructed using recycled railroad track as stringers and local cedar and hophornbeam for the railing system. Link to larger photo of the handicap accessible bridge constructed at the TiberPointe Outdoor Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
