Accessible Trail Construction

Project Profile: John Dillon Park

Long Lake, New York
John Dillon Park "is designed for people with disabilities to bring their friends, family, and caregivers for an outdoor wilderness experience, through the installation of special adaptive facilities blended into a natural environment."

Timber & Stone, LLC has continually participated in the construction of the trail system for this unique park. Accessible boardwalks, bridges, and sections of trail tread were constructed in accordance with ADA guidelines.

Naturally winding boardwalks were constructed of cedar and featured a handsome protective rail.

Trails are surfaced and graded to allow safe and enjoyable travel for hikers with disabilities. During construction, trails were cleared and the surfacing was imported using machinery. Grading was monitored closely to ensure compliance with ADA requirements.

Project Manager: Peter S. Jensen & Associates, LLC
"Peter S. Jensen & Associates, LLC is committed to designing and building pedestrian trails which provide safe visitor access while safeguarding the natural, cultural, and historic landscapes. Our objective is to incorporate innovative design and construction techniques, utilize unique and low impact equipment, build trails which will become historic, and create memorable trail experiences."

Constructed of locally milled cedar, this boardwalk winds through a sensitive wetland area.
